Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of humanity’s past, present, and future in space. Yuri’s Night parties and events are held around the world every April in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first human to venture into space on April 12, 1961, and the inaugural launch of the first Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981. Yuri’s Night events combine space-themed partying with education and outreach.
A group of Spaceflight Operations students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach) are hosting Yuri's Fort Night! At this event, 10 pre-registered teams of 5 people will be building cardboard “space forts” reminiscent of ISS modules. If you are an Embry-Riddle student who would like to register a team, please pay attention to this Facebook event for more information: In addition to the fort building competition, this event takes place at the same time as our University's Astronomy Open House so there are multiple short lectures, a Night-Sky simulator, as well as arts and crafts projects to experience. Guests will also have access to our school's 1-meter telescope to enjoy the cosmos. Whether you are a participating team, an Embry-Riddle student who has some free time, a family visiting for the University's Preview Day, or a member of the Daytona Beach community, we can't wait to see you there!
